Volunteer Workday Information

Before you sign up to volunteer on our farm, we want to go over a few basics so that you know what to expect.

1. The volunteer workday program

• The goal of the volunteer workday is to give individuals and families a chance to experience what it is like to work on a farm.
• Volunteering on our farm is also a great way to give your time and energy to make a positive impact in the community.
• The intent of the volunteer workday is not to take a "field trip" to the farm. We will offer some field days later in the season.

2. Structure of the day

• We will begin the work session with a short tour/overview of the farm.
• We will hold a brief meeting to discuss farm rules and safe working practices before we begin.
• Please be prompt so that you do not miss this important information.
• We will try to match volunteers with the tasks that best suit their skills / physical abilities.
• Please bring your own lunch if you plan to stay for the entire day.
• We will have bottled water available for all volunteers.

3. Potential tasks for the day

• Removing weeds
• Adding compost to the beds
• Mixing / applying organic fertilizer
• Helping to install drip irrigation
• Preparing / planting vegetable beds
• Building a mushroom bed
• Preparing / planting wildflower areas
• Removing sticks, stones, etc. from planting areas
• Building / planting G.I.Y. garden bed displays
• Installing trellises for climbing crops
• Planting fruit trees / bushes

4. Special considerations for volunteer families with young children

• Children are welcome to participate in the volunteer workday, but may be limited to certain tasks that are age-appropriate.
• Young children must be accompanied by a parent / guardian at all times.

Note: All volunteers will be required to sign a waiver prior to participating in the workday program.
