Why Join a CSA?

1. Access to fresh, flavorful food
Grocery store produce has been bred for shipping durability and long shelf life, and has probably spent weeks in storage before it gets to your plate. Our varieties are selected for flavor and adapted to local growing conditions. Produce is often picked within hours of delivery, when flavor is at its finest and nutritional value is at its peak.
2. Develop a relationship with the person who grows your food
You can feel better about the quality of your food because you know where it is coming from and how it is being grown. We invite our CSA members to stop by anytime to see how their food is growing.
3. CSA membership is educational
Members are invited to special on-farm events and kept up to date on farm happenings with a regular newsletter. They gain valuable insight into the world of farming and can even get their hands dirty and help with the planting and harvesting if they would like.
4. Diversify your diet
CSA baskets will include interesting varieties of vegetables that are not available in the produce section of your grocery store. You will probably receive vegetables that you otherwise might not even try. Recipes and preparation tips will be provided with each basket delivery to help get the most out of the harvest. Who knows, you might even get kids to eat their veggies once they see how good fresh produce from “their” farm tastes!
5. Get a great value for your food dollar
Cutting out the middle man allows the consumer to pay a lower price than they would pay at the store. Farm to doorstep delivery means fewer trips to the grocery store. When you factor in the convenience of always having fresh food on hand, there might not be a better value than being a shareholder in your local CSA.
6. Strengthen your local community
The social aspects of CSA membership can help you build new relationships with other community members. Eating local keeps more of your food dollars in the community and helps support the local economy. Buying from your local farmer helps reduce packaging and waste, so it’s good for the local environment as well.
7. Helps protect the future of small-scale farming
Small farms once formed the backbone of our local communities. These farms are disappearing at an alarming rate as many small farmers are unable to compete with the corporate farming model. The CSA model allows small farmers to stay small, remain viable, and ensure that they will be a part of our communities for future generations to enjoy.
